Fast 10: Endorfin

Local selector Endorfin is next up in our female focused series Fast 10…

They say that to make it in the scene, you need to be an active member of that community. I can’t give you a precise example of who ‘they’ are, but they’re definitely saying it. And it’s definitely true…

The heart of Melbourne’s music industry is a tight community of people with a unified passion and principles. We’re a community that is often forgotten about, or cast aside. But nevertheless, a community that bands together in times of need, to give back in whatever way they can. There is no greater example of this than in early 2020 when Australia was ravaged by bushfires. The music industry came together to host a series of fundraisers, accumulating hundreds of thousands of dollars for the CFA and those affected, only to later be completely forgotten by the Victorian government when Covid-19 hit, leaving many artists without an income. Remember that? 🤪

A prime example of someone’s rise to acclaim being credit to her presence within community (alongside her talent of course) is Endorfin. Known to her friends as Kim Dorfman, she's an artist who dips her toes into every corner of the music industry. You’ll find exquisite examples of Enforfin’s output on mix series’ for Area3000, bleus, HER 他, The Daily Commute, and Luna. You’ll often find Endorfin in the comments section on Soundcloud mixes sharing praise and adoration for her fellow artists. You’ll find her laying down tunes at local watering holes for Creatures Events, Novel, and Glamorama. You’ll find her sharing and promoting the work of emerging local artists wherever there’s an opportunity. Or you’ll see her bopping along in the crowd at any number of local events. Alongside her active participation within the scene, her musical stylings lean toward a sophisticated fusion of electronic, UKG, downtempo, Balearic, deep house, breakbeat, and experimental - all with an overarching feeling of warmth and nostalgia. Bliss.

Whether you’ve rubbed shoulders with Endorfin within the scene or not, she’s one you’ll know if you’re in the know. And if not, you’d better take note. We’re delighted to have Kim join us for the next instalment of Fast 10.

1. THREE WORDS TO DESCRIBE MY MUSIC:

A warm hug. It isn’t always that but sometimes I wish it was.

2. A FEMALE ARTIST EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW:

Pretty Girl. Her track selections in her DJ mixes remind me why I started DJing myself. Her mixes always make me want to cry, hug someone and dance all at the same time - that perfect euphoric sweet spot that I aim to achieve in my own sets. Also, her latest production work is incredible and inspiring. Also, I can’t get enough of E. Fishpool’s new releases- they take you on a truly emotive journey.

3. A TRACK I’M EMBARASSED TO LOVE:

‘Doctor Jones’ by Aqua. I used to love this song as a kid and it still goes off every time!

4. THE LOCAL INDUSTRY NEEDS MORE:

Queer club nights! Most of the queer nights I’ve been to are dominated by gay men, and I’d love more spaces for women and gender diverse people to be seen and heard.

5. MY DRINK OF CHOICE AT A GIG:

Vodka lemon lime and bitters.

6. WHAT EMPOWERS ME:

Knowing that our time on earth is finite. It motivates me to live for the present and work hard.

7. THE BEST GIG I’VE EVER PLAYED:

I rocked up very late at a friend’s house party where I knew basically no one. They asked if I wanted to play a set and soon enough, I had the whole party crammed into a small room dancing to my set. It was the spontaneity and anonymity which made it really special.

8. IF I WASN’T IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY, I WOULD BE:

A primary school teacher. That’s actually my day job.

9. SOMEONE I LOOK UP TO IS:

This is a hard one. There are so many inspiring women and gender diverse role models in the electronic music world right now. If I had to pick one, I’d have to say Dr. Rubinstein. She is a DJ who is always smiling when she performs and truly reveals the passion she has for the music she plays. It’s so refreshing to see against the many straight faced white dudes who still dominate the industry.

10. THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I’VE EVER RECEIVED:

Nobody is going to do the hard work for you, so if you want it done, you better do it yourself.
